In 1949, Donald P. Giffin established the company on Golden Avenue in Toronto, Canada as a sheet metal manufacturer for the commercial HVAC industry, primarily producing ventilation ductwork for office buildings and factories. In 1962, Giffin relocated to Bridgeland Avenue in Downsview, Ontario. A strategic shift toward the industrial sector and automotive market began in 1965, with sub-contract work with other automotive suppliers, which led to Giffin’s first significant, direct automotive contract in 1973.
Throughout his career Donald P. Giffin Sr. was a member and President of both of the Toronto Construction Association and the Canadian Construction Association for an unprecedented two consecutive terms. He was also an active member of the Air Handling Association lending his support, construction knowledge, and experience to his peers. In honour of his work throughout the years in the construction industry, the Toronto Construction Association presents the Donald P. Giffin, Sr. Construction Industry Achievement Award annually. Recipients of this award would be persons and/or organizations who have benefited construction industry through their major contributions to its progress.
Current ownership is comprised of second-generation siblings with a third generation now active.
